Hello --
My name is Kathi.
Just about two years ago, my boyfriend, Richard, and I saw the movie
Pay It Forward. We were deeply touched by the story and message
that was told. I believe we saw the movie just before the events
of 9/11. We decided that we could help to heal the hurt by Paying
It Forward ourselves. We were in the process of starting a business.
We decided at that time that we would make it a nonprofit organization
instead of a for profit so that we could help people and do acts
of kindness by spreading the concept.
We started our
organization just under a year ago and have been working to spread
the word. We are self supporting, as we have not received our 501(c)(3)
status. We have both put our life savings into this organization
in hope that our dream will come alive. We utilize the fashion and
beauty industry to support our efforts by fundraising at various
venues in Southern California and Nevada.
It is a concept
that we believe in very strongly and feel that just a little kindness
from people will help to start the healing process that this nation
needs so deeply. There is much to tell and it would be an extremely
long email if I was to go on. I will say that we have done many
acts of kindness in the past year. Some of these include: feeding
the homeless on the streets of LA, provide meals to less fortunate
families in the community, and donated a car to a family that had
no transportation. We were even able to help a destitute family
that was loosing their home to foreclosure by providing a place
to live at a price that could be afforded to them. These are just
a few of the things we have provided to the community. Our goal
is to open a home at no cost to those families who live there, so
that they are not separated by the state system due to lack of ability
to care for their children. We work with women on their professional
image and provide the training required to enter the workforce so
they can become independent and care for their family.
We have developed
a website that explains the concept of Pay It Forward and invite
you to visit and learn about our organization. Your story has touched
us deeply and we encourage others to see the movie if they have
not. I hope this email brings warmth to your heart, as it has to
me just writing.
Sincerely,
Kathi Sherman and Richard Richey
