Pay It Forward in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

Thought you may be interested in two benefit concerts I, along with many others, have produced in the past 20 months. Both, having been inspired by the Pay it Forward philosophy, were (are) titled Pay it Forward and both have (will) raised substantial funds for the Red Cross relief funds for two local disasters.

The first, in June of 2001, raised over $50,000 to assist the 113 residents burnt out of their apartments by a devastating fire. The final press release for that one is attached.

The second, Pay it Forward 2, to be held on March 6th, is in support of the 1100 residents of Badger, NL who have had their entire community evacuated for the past 10 days due to massive flooding of three connecting rivers blocked with ice. Many will return, not for several months, to destroyed homes, all having to leave in such a hurry that few possessions or keepsakes could be saved or protected. Every major entertainer in our fair province will entertain nearly 6000 people at Mile One Stadium and the rest of the Province via a two hour live TV broadcast. We anticipate turning over around $200,000 to the relief effort.

The PIF philosophy was the genisis of these ideas, but it was the goodwill of so many that has allowed us to make a difference.

CHEERS!
Peter MacKenzie
