Pay It Forward--Yuma, AZ
Hello, I have started a pay it forward campaign here in Yuma based on the movie. I was going to put a page on a web site I'm building and looked up "Pay it Forward" so I could use the characters name to explain the campaign. There you were. I didn't know that it was a real campaign. I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes. Please let me know.

I'm a retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant who now works for the Marine Corps at Yuma Arizona. While taking a leadership certificate course I came up with this campaign to help people in places that I travel. I was hoping to watch how it spread. Here is my plan:

First I had business cards made, please see attached.

Now once a week I perform a random act of kindness and hand the recipients the card.

I have given waitresses at restaurants enough money for dinner for two and a tip. Then instruct her to pay for the next couples dinner who she waits on after I leave making sure she hands them a card.

I have done this twice in Yuma and once in San Diego

I have given the cashier at a restaurant enough money to pay for someone's meal and ask her to use it on the fifth person to come up and pay for a meal, passing on a card

This weekend I gave an indigent lady carrying a bag of cans that she was going to recycle for money $20.00 and a card. I asked her to perform an act of kindness for someone else. She asked me what religion I was. I told her I'm just trying to do good things for good people.

I plan on giving an indigent man who lives on a corner of a freeway off ramp some money today for himself and some to give away. This man who I have never seen bother anyone sits at the side of a road near an affluent part of town. He has had several newspaper articles written about him on why he should be not allowed to stay there, because he's an eye sore. I hope he will give someone some money and pass on a card to one of those people. Maybe it will change their mind.

My girlfriend is also doing the same kinds of things. We have passed out 10 cards together.

I was planning on putting my website address on the back of the cards so people could look up my website and read about what the campaign was all about. I was going to let them know if they wanted more cards just give me an address to send them to. I also wanted to set up an account where people could donate money if they wanted.

Once a quarter I would randomly select a donor and send them back half of the donations that they could use to randomly perform an act of kindness. I would use the other half here in Yuma. Some of my ideas were to have a stranger select a letter form the alphabet, then another stranger select male or female. Then take the money to the local community college and buy books for the first person who has a last name starting with the selected letter and was the selected sex. This type of random selection could be used for all types of random acts of kindness.

I hope this is acceptable to you. I just thought the movie was excellent and with all the bad news on TV and around the world I could make the world a better place one person at a time.
