| Published: Thursday, June 19, 2008 4:31 AM EDT To the Editor: On behalf of the Frank and Jane Ulicny family, we wish to thank all those who have participated in the Pay it Forward program. This program not only provided much needed financial aid, but also has publicized the challenges faced by many individuals and groups in the area. The award presented to Frank and Jane Ulicny will be used immediately for a variety of purposes. A significant one will be in re-paving and widening the crumbling walkway in order to make it wheelchair accessible. In these woeful economic times, money for everyone is tight, gas money alone. The cost for Jane and the kids to visit Frank while he is undergoing his six weeks of radiation treatments up in Danville is pushing well over $100 a week. The award has been a godsend. Special thanks to Mary Lou Leiby and the friends at Child Development for their kindness in submitting Frank and Jane’s challenging situation, along with thanks to some major voting blocks of friends . . . you know who you are, you have our deepest appreciation. Beyond the Pay it Forward award, five loving individual donor friends have contributed $100 checks each to assist in this time of crisis. Their generosity cannot be heralded enough; it is overwhelming. Additionally, local groups such as the workers as Ateeco, friends at Career Link, and the staff of the Tamaqua Area School District have worked fundraisers, which have been of tremendous financial assistance. Jane also wishes to express her gratitude to her employer, White Owl Manor, for their consideration in allowing time off work and flexibility in her schedule. With the award from the Pay it Forward program and the individual and group contributions, we have decided to set up a Frank and Jane Ulicny Family Fund with the KNBT Bank in Frackville in order to best account for the money donated and see it channeled to best meet the family’s growing needs. A final special thanks to The REPUBLICAN & Herald and PPL for the Pay it Forward program. You have publicized the dire situations of many local people and groups, and the generosity of our local citizens always seems to come into the fore when people are in need.
