On June 6, 2003 I began an act of kindness at my school and I
called it in one short breath, Pay it Forward. I decided to donate
my school books to other students less fortunate in my school. I
was sitting in my house one day listening to my children run around,
laugh, play and realized that I was much more fortunate than others.
The act of kindness took an overwhelming response among the students,
the single parents especially. Since then I have helped over fifteen
women, most of which are single mothers trying to make a better
tomorrow for themselves and for their children. I have helped each
one to receive a donated book from a fellow student in our school.
In the past year I have come across students who have dropped
their courses because of the cost for books. Students with the same
dream as I, to one day graduate with fellow classmates.
I have only two rules to the program I began in my OLS lounge.
1) The student who receives the book must write his /her names
on the inside cover.
2) The student must then write the name of the student who the book
was received from next to their name.
3) Pay it Forward
My letter is for you to know that my intentions are from my heart.
My goal is to keep students less fortunate in school and not to
let a price of book come between them and their dreams.
If there is more than one way that you think I can support my
fellow students I would appreciate your kind words.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Sincerely
Anushki Heckler
