I am writing this letter today in hopes that the right people will be praised for their actions. My name is Kenneth J. Colvin, and I am a Brother at the Jacksonville State Chapter in Al. I am writing you today with a clearer mind and a fuller heart, that there are people out there, that do put others before themselves, that do hold out a helping hand to that stranger in need. In this case, I am that stranger. My grandmother, who has raised me my entire life, has been my mother, my teacher, my angel, and my voice of reason when I needed one, passed away on Tues. the 22nd. Having already lost my mother, her daughter, to cancer years ago this was a very hard blow. I was very close to my grandmother and at times, she would say, "it's just you and me". Towards the end of her illness, she refered to me as her angel, little did she know, she has always been mine. I had one day to get to Ohio from Alabama, and as you can imagine my world was upside down and everything was moving at lightning speed. I had to be there for her, she was always there for me. I do have family were she was living, but do to a long standing family rift, they were not willing to help me or even pick me up at the airport. I was desperate, trying to grab on to any shread of hope to get there, so in my desperation I looked on the Delta Chi website and found Ohio's regent, Steve Bossart, who then put me in touch with Paul Bohlman. Paul took time out of his life to make sure a complete stranger was taken care of, he took time away from his family to come pick me up at the airport and take me to the Denison Delta Chi colony in Granville, OH. I have always had traditional views on brotherhood and love for your house, but the Denison Delta Chi's came to my aide when my own family would not. They took me in, made sure I got to my grandmother's funeral, talked with me when I needed it , and treated me as if I were one of their own. Brotherhood has an entire new meaning to me, my Chapter is over 30yrs old and I love my brothers, but it took a colony 628 miles away with hearts of gold and bond uncommon to get me through this. My brother,Dustin Pfeif, and new friend ,and at the time temporary roomate, took a complete stranger in and treated me the only way he saw, as his brother, he will always be mine. To the Denison Delta Chi's I owe them more thanks than I could ever give. To their Pres. Kyle, I owe him thanks as well. If any chapter, colony, or group of Delta Chi's has ever deserved recognition for showing the true qualities of what brotherhood and "The Bond" of Delta Chi is about, then I say Denison, the brothers who reached out when the world was closing around one of their own. I will always remember them for the rest of my life.

In the Bond,

Kenneth J. Colvin
