PAY
IT FORWARD--An Article by Pat Cline
Pay it forward is a novel, a movie, but most of all an idea. Pay it
Forward is a story about Trevor McKinney, a twelve year old boy from
a small California town. One day, his Social Studies teacher, Reuben
St.Claire, gives an extra credit assignment to his students. He told
them to come up with an idea that could change the world, and then
put the plan into action. Trevor's idea was "Pay it Forward."
It starts with Trevor, who will help three people in some way. Each
of the three people he helps will then help three other people. Instead
of paying someone back for helping them, they pay it forward to someone
in need.
People are getting
involved with the idea, but it has not changed the world. I am writing
this to express my feelings on this topic.
I have paid
it forward. A man came to me on the street and handed me a $5 bill.
I thought he was crazy and had this dazed look on my face. The man
laughed and said to me with a huge grin, "Just paying it forward.
Spend that wisely, okay?" No Joke. Five bucks, no strings attached.
That night I
went to Blockbuster, and there it was. The title jumped out at me
as I was walking down the New Release section. I turned and read
the title, Pay it Forward. I spent the five on the rental and a
two liter of Coke.
After seeing
the movie I understood what I had to do. Over the next month, I
paid it forward to three people, telling, them to do the same.
Anyway, the
point I'm trying, to make is that paying it forward works, really!
Please, when someone helps you out, pay it forward. it can make
Central a better place, and when the 8th graders go to the Park
high schools next year, they can keep paying it forward, making
Salem, Canton, and the new Plymouth high schools great places.
Paying it forward,
make it contagious.
