Members of STLF presented the student-made documentary "Everything Intangible," which was filmed during last year's Pay It Forward tour Wednesday evening in Capen Auditorium. The film captured the experiences of 120 students on a mission to make a movement happen during their spring break in 2006.
"Last year on the tour we had the opportunity to have three camera crews on three of the buses," Phil Lopez, a junior history major, said.
The documentary spans about an hour and 20 minutes and covers the stories of various members on each bus during their separate trips. Ultimately, the groups met together in Washington D.C. at the end of their week-long journey to help with river conservation at a park.
"We are hoping to have a camera crew on board [as well]," Lopez said.
A finale celebration also took place during their last stop on the tour, where author of the book Pay It Forward, Catherine Ryan Hyde, spoke of her experiences. The groups traveled to a number of states including Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and North Carolina.
"This will be Illinois State's first tour on Pay It Forward," Casey Meyers, a junior physical education major, said, "It's going to be huge and we are really excited."
The tour continues to grow, with 600 participants from communities across the country. This year, there will be a total of 14 charter buses of 40 people, six of which will conclude their tour in San Antonio, TX. As planned, the STLF group from ISU will be on one of the eight tours meeting in Washington D.C as well, according to Meyers.
"Spots are filling up fast," Meyers said. "It's (registration) open up until the day we leave, [currently] 16 spots are available."
Members of STLF from ISU will travel to such cities as Washington D.C, Memphis, Tenn., Tallahassee, Fla., Birmingham, Ala., Charleston, S.C., and Richmond, Va. from March 9 to 16. The group will likely leave around 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 9.
The cost for this spring break trip is $425, which covers the bus fee, eight nights of room and board, two meals a day, two shirts, as well as entertainment. The down payment is $125 and the full payment of $425 is due by February 23 but financial aid is available.
After that date, the cost will increase to $450 but if you get a friend to sign up with you as well, you will receive $25 dollars off of the full payment of $425.
