Hello Mrs. Catherine,
Yes. Egypt is
paying it forward! It's not that the movie has been released. It
had already been released a long time ago. Just a week or two before
the first PIF chat we had with you at the yahoo club. The movie
was a big success. But still, the people who went to see it were
few. It didn't last for long on theatres, because of the local movies
which took over. I was disappointed in a way, but I was satisfied
that whatever reviews I read were all positive. ALL of them. That
is almost it about the movie. My major concern was the concept itself,
and whether or not people are willing to pay it forward. I thought
that it was not possible. But deep inside, a part of myself believed
that pay it forward were to make it someday. I had to wait until
it was out on tapes. And pay it forward remained unheard of until
it was Thursday! Z-Tok, or The-Talk, is a very famous radio show,
presented live by one of the most recognized people in Radio and
T.V business- 'Ossama Kamal' is his name. Other than being in this
business, Ossama happens to own his private business which is a
very successful one. Ossama's radio show goes as follows: As mentioned
earlier, his show is a live radio show. Listeners can call and have
their phone calls taken on-air, where they discuss several and different
issues. Mostly entertainment issues. The show is being aired in
English. The unique thing about this show is that it is combined
with the internet. Meaning that there's a site with a chat room,
and people on the chat room can pose their comments and have it
aired while listening to the show. So, it's not only about people
whose calls are taken on-air, but also chatters whose comments and
opinions are mentioned on air. The show is aired on Thursdays only
from 12 to 2:00 am in the morning (Cairo Local time). I happen to
be a regular on this show. And I almost tune in every week, and
join the chat. Last Thursday, Ossama raised the topic for discussion
which was "How to change the world?" When he raised it,
I didn't know what he exactly meant, but in the chat I talked about
Pay It Forward the movie, and said that the topic that Ossama raised
"kinda reminds me of the movie PIF." Most of the chatters
said they didn't hear or seen the movie. Ossama was playing a song,
and when finished he aired my comments and said "Z-Mizo (My
nick on the chat), this is exactly what I am about to talk about."
And you know it, I was very thrilled! Ossama talked a bit about
the movie and the concept and said that he wanted people to call
or chat during the two hours about how they could change the world
into a better place in light of Pay It Forward. I was the only one
in the chat who had watched PIF, and so Ossama was particularly
interested in my comments, and took most of them (if not all) on-air.
When I asked him if I could forward him the emails I got from the
author, he typed "please do!" I also talked about the
ending and how some people criticized it. Ossama said that he thought
it was the best thing about the movie. Many people who "called"
and "chatted" seemed to have liked the PIF idea. Knowing
that Ossama was a successful business man, I asked him "if
he could develop a certain project to promote the PIF concept with
the listeners. Ossama was then taking a caller on air, so he couldn't
type much. Actually he couldn't type much during the whole show
because of the flow of phone calls. All what he typed in response
was "Let's try." I really thought he wasn't serious. But
he was! After he was finished with the caller, he said "Z-Mizo
brought a nice suggestion about a PIF project." He even set
a chat this Tuesday at 9:00 pm Cairo local time which he will join
himself to see what he could do about a PIF project. He never did
any chats but on Thursdays. Ossama is really interested. I'll let
you know about it. Just wanted to thank you very much for everything.
Regards, Mizo.
