Program of the Year Selected

The National Association of College and University Residence Halls, Inc., in conjunction with the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International, has selected "Pay It Forward" as the 2001 Program of the Year.

Pay It Forward from Syracuse University was designed to; increase community service efforts on and off campus by having students do good deeds for others, raise student awareness about the people around them who might be in need, inspire students to help others, show the SU community that a simple, kind gesture can make a big difference and allow students to share their Pay It Forward experiences. The presentation was outstanding and provoked a great deal of thought about what positive roles our student leaders play within our communities. Megan Auman and Rich Anderson will present the session at the 2002 ACUHO-I conference.

The other finalist for the POY award was Appalachian State University whose program was entitled, "Survivor". This program was presented in a wonderfully creative manner by several student representatives. Both institutions presented their nominations as conference sessions at NACURH '02 at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities for final consideration by the NACURH Board of Directors.

The NACURH Board of Directors and ACUHO-I would like to thank all of the students that submitted POY nominations for this years Award. For a copy of any POY submissions, contact: National Information Center.

The deadline for submitting reports for the 2002 Program of the Year Award is December 1, 2002.
